Veteran Actress Jill Jacobson Dies at 70, Leaving Legacy Across Television and Film

Jill Jacobson, known for her diverse roles in television including appearances on Star Trek series and Falcon Crest, has died at age 70. Her passing occurred on December 8 at Cedars-Sinai’s Culver West Health Center in Los Angeles following an extended illness, as confirmed by her friend Dan Harary to The Hollywood Reporter.

Jacobson made her mark in Hollywood throughout a career spanning several decades, most notably as private detective Erin Jones in 22 episodes of CBS’s primetime soap Falcon Crest (1985-87). During the same period, she portrayed Larue Wilson in The New Gidget, where her performance left a lasting impression on co-star Caryn Richman, who praised her “brilliant comic timing” and joyful presence on set.

The Texas native, who grew up in Beaumont and Dallas, built a varied acting portfolio that included memorable appearances on both Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Her television credits extended to numerous popular series including Murphy Brown, Newhart, Who’s the Boss?, and Castle, along with a role in Ron Howard’s 1984 film Splash.

Beyond her screen work, Jacobson became a regular performer at Los Angeles comedy venues The Improv and The Comedy Store, showcasing her stand-up talents. She was also recognized for her dedication to charitable causes, receiving awards for her volunteer work with the American Cancer Society.

A graduate of the University of Texas with a degree in Radio, TV and Film Performance, Jacobson began her Hollywood journey with the cult classic Nurse Sherri before building an extensive career in television and film. At the time of her death, she had a project titled “Merrily” in production, scheduled for release next year.

Jacobson is remembered fondly by family and friends, including her beloved dogs Benny and Kowalski. She was the daughter of Dr. Harry Jacobson and Carol Toplitz Jacobson Hornstein.
