"Bluey" is making the leap to the big screen

Disney+ and BBC Announce First ‘Bluey’ Feature Film for 2027

NEW YORK (AP) — The globally popular children’s series “Bluey” is making the leap to the big screen, with Disney+ and BBC Studios announcing Tuesday their collaboration on the show’s first feature film, set for theatrical release in 2027.

The movie will feature the beloved blue heeler puppy and her family, maintaining the original voice cast including Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack as Bluey’s parents, Chilli and Bandit Heeler. Series composer Joff Bush will create the film’s score.

“I’ve always thought Bluey deserved a theatrical movie. I want this to be an experiential event for the whole family to enjoy together,” said series creator Joe Brumm in a statement.

The Australian-produced show has become a global phenomenon since its 2017 debut. According to Nielsen Media Research, “Bluey” ranks as Disney+’s most-watched series globally this year and has accumulated over 20 billion streaming minutes in the United States alone during the past year, placing it among the country’s top 10 streaming programs.

Currently available in more than 140 countries, the series about an energetic blue heeler puppy who turns everyday moments into adventures has garnered critical acclaim, winning consecutive Television Critics Association Awards in 2023 and 2024, along with a Peabody Award this year.

Following its theatrical run, the film will stream exclusively on Disney+ worldwide and on ABC iView and ABC Kids in Australia.
