Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie Finalize Divorce After Eight Years

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have finally reached a divorce settlement, ending one of Hollywood’s longest and most public marital dissolutions eight years after their initial separation.

Jolie’s attorney James Simon confirmed the agreement Thursday in a statement to People Magazine. “More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt,” Simon said. “She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr. Pitt, and since that time she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family. This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.”

The Oscar-winning actors, who were declared legally single by a judge in 2019, had continued negotiations over asset division and child custody. Their relationship became increasingly contentious, particularly over the ownership of their shared French winery, Château Miraval.

Two years ago, Jolie filed a countersuit regarding the winery dispute that detailed a 2016 physical altercation, alleging Pitt had been aggressive toward both her and their children. Pitt’s representatives responded that he would accept responsibility for some past actions but denied others, claiming Jolie “continues to rehash, revise and reimagine” the incident.

The couple, who began their relationship in 2005 and married in 2014, share six children, four of whom are now over 18. They had initially pledged to handle their divorce privately when announcing their separation in early 2017.

The settlement marks the end of a highly publicized chapter in Hollywood history. The couple, who won three Academy Awards between them, were once considered one of the entertainment industry’s most powerful partnerships, collaborating both personally and professionally.

Representatives for Pitt have not responded to requests for comment about the settlement terms.
