WASHINGTON (AP) — In his first hours back in office, President Donald Trump unveiled an extensive policy agenda on Tuesday that aims to dramatically reshape American governance through a series of executive actions focused on immigration, energy, bureaucratic reform and cultural issues.
The wide-ranging plan, released by the White House, centers on four main pillars: border security, energy independence, government reform, and what the administration terms “American values.”
At the forefront of Trump’s immediate priorities is a significant overhaul of immigration policy. The president announced plans to reinstate the “Remain in Mexico” program, complete the border wall construction, and deploy military forces, including the National Guard, to assist with border security operations. In a notable shift, Trump also declared his intention to designate certain cartels, specifically mentioning the Tren de Aragua, as foreign terrorist organizations.
On energy policy, Trump promised to reverse what he called “Biden’s policies of climate extremism.” The agenda includes withdrawing from the Paris Climate Accord, streamlining energy permits, and ending support for large-scale wind farm projects. The president declared an “energy emergency” to expedite infrastructure development and pledged to review regulations on consumer products ranging from vehicles to household appliances.
In a direct challenge to the federal bureaucracy, Trump announced a hiring freeze on non-essential positions, particularly targeting what he described as “DEI activists.” The plan calls for returning federal workers to in-person work, noting that currently only 6% of employees work in office.
The agenda also addresses social issues, with Trump promising to establish policies that recognize “male and female as biological reality” and protect what the administration describes as traditional values. The plan includes initiatives to rename American landmarks to “appropriately honor our Nation’s history.”
“This comprehensive agenda represents a bold vision to restore American prominence through decisive executive action,” a senior White House official said, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss the administration’s strategy.
Critics argue the sweeping nature of these executive actions could face legal challenges, particularly regarding immigration enforcement and environmental policy changes. However, supporters praise the quick action to implement campaign promises.
