LOS ANGELES (AP) — Former “Malcolm in the Middle” star Frankie Muniz has worried fans with a late-night social media post suggesting personal turmoil amid news of the show’s upcoming revival.
“Can’t sleep. Hard when you realize your friends aren’t really your friends,” Muniz wrote on X, formerly Twitter. The cryptic message prompted an outpouring of concern and support from followers.
The post comes shortly after Disney+ announced a revival of “Malcolm in the Middle,” with Muniz set to reunite with co-stars Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek, who played his parents in the original series. The status of other cast members, including Justin Berfield, Erik Per Sullivan, and Christopher Masterson, remains unclear.
Prior to the concerning post, Muniz had expressed enthusiasm about the revival on Instagram, writing, “Get ready, we can’t wait for everyone to see what Malcolm and his family have been up to!”
The 38-year-old actor has not elaborated on the specifics behind his apparent friendship troubles, and his representatives have not responded to requests for comment.
The contrast between Muniz’s recent career success and his personal message has left fans speculating about the source of his distress, with many hoping it’s unrelated to the upcoming series production.
“Malcolm in the Middle” originally ran from 2000 to 2006 on Fox, earning critical acclaim and helping launch Muniz’s career. The Disney+ revival marks the first time the main cast will reunite for new episodes.
