Nick Jonas Receives Criticism Following Social Media Interaction with Elon Musk

Nick Jonas Faces Backlash Over Elon Musk Social Media Exchange

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Singer Nick Jonas sparked controversy Tuesday after a social media interaction with Elon Musk, prompting fans to threaten boycotting the Jonas Brothers’ upcoming 20th anniversary tour.

The exchange began when Musk responded to a post about Tesla’s profits rising 100 percent since Donald Trump’s election victory. The tech billionaire shared an old GIF of the Jonas Brothers spinning around a coffee table with the caption “My, how the tables have turned!” Nick, 32, quote-tweeted Musk’s post with a reference to their cover of “Year 3000,” writing “Take us to the Year 3000” alongside a photo of the tech mogul.

The interaction triggered immediate backlash from fans, with many expressing disappointment in Jonas’s apparent support of Musk, who recently topped Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index with a net worth of $455 billion following Tesla’s post-election stock surge.

“We’re not just gonna move on from this,” one longtime fan wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “To be noticeably quiet during the entire election cycle and then tweet something like this? I’ve been a fan since 2005 and was really looking forward to a 20-year anniversary tour but I just cannot give my support to this.”

The controversy comes as Musk’s wealth has grown by more than $170 billion since Election Day, partly attributed to his support of President-elect Donald Trump’s campaign, having contributed at least $277 million to Trump and other Republican candidates.

Interestingly, Jonas himself has previously hinted at political aspirations. In 2019, the Jonas Brothers sold merchandise featuring “Vote For Nick 2040” slogans. His interest in politics dates back to 2004 when, at age 12, he told CBS’s The Early Show, “Maybe I’ll be president or something.” Jonas will reach the minimum presidential age requirement of 35 in 2027, making 2028 his earliest possible campaign year.

The social media incident marks Jonas’s first public interaction with Musk on the platform. While some fans have urged him to delete the post, others have noted that making the response public was a deliberate choice.

Tesla investors have reportedly pinned hopes on Musk’s relationship with the President-elect, anticipating that the billionaire’s role in shaping the incoming Republican administration’s policy agenda could benefit the automaker.

Representatives for Jonas, who is married to actress Priyanka Chopra, have not commented on the situation.
