Nancy Pelosi, the former Speaker of the House, underwent successful hip replacement surgery on Saturday following an accident during an official visit to Luxembourg. The California Democrat was participating in a congressional delegation commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge when the incident occurred.
According to sources familiar with the event, Pelosi fell while descending marble stairs at the Grand Ducal Palace on Friday. Following the accident, she received treatment at Hospital Kirchberg in Luxembourg before being transferred to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, a U.S. military facility in Germany, where the surgery was performed.
“Speaker Emerita Pelosi is well on the mend,” confirmed her spokesman, Ian Krager, who expressed Pelosi’s gratitude to the medical teams at both facilities for their “excellent care and kindness.” While the timing of her return to the United States remains unspecified, Krager noted that Pelosi has been moved by the “overwhelming outpouring of prayers and well wishes.”
